Treatments
What can osteopaths treat?
Osteopaths treat the person not the condition. The osteopath works with structural imbalances that are present in the body to restore a state of physical balance.
Osteopaths have two aims during their diagnosis and treatment:
- To identify and treat the cause of the pain (for example muscle injury, joint strain, intervertebral disc damage etc.)
- To understand why the structure has been vulnerable to a strain and to improve overall mechanics so that it is less likely to recur in the future.
The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) will only allow osteopaths to mention conditions where the efficacy has been proven by large scale clinical trials. This data is not available for many conditions that patients report improvement in, so they may not be mentioned here.
